Lindal History
Lindal was founded over 75 years ago in 1945 in Toronto. The company has since become the largest manufacturer of post-and-beam prefabricated cedar homes in North America. In the 1960s, the builder became the United States’ largest A-frame builder.
Still a private company, Lindal has been passed down through three generations and employs over 190 people.
The company’s headquarters is now in Seattle and they serve:
England
France
Hawaii
Japan
Germany
North America
Russia
Lindal Homes specializes in post-and-beam construction and utilizes glulam posts and beams to create structures that are stable, durable and green. The construction company has partnered with architects across the world to build beautiful, prefab homes.
Today, the company has over 70 models and has built over 50,000 homes for customers across the world.
Sustainability is the cornerstone of the company’s designs. When constructing any home, the company aims to offer a green building that includes site selection, building techniques and materials that are green and sustainable.
Over the last 20 years, Lindal has been part of the American Forests Global ReLeaf program that aims to replace all of the trees that have been harvested for the building process. The company is also trained and certified as Green Professionals.
When constructing a home, the builder can help build off-grid homes and also seek green certifications for the home.
How Much Do Lindal Homes Cost?
Lindal Homes, like all home builders, will provide you with an accurate quote so that you have a full understanding of how much your home will cost. Multiple factors go into the construction and pricing of your home.
Lindal claims that the average U.S. customer will pay between $90 and $140 per square foot for:
Design
Plans
Materials
Construction is not included in this cost and can raise prices to two or three times this figure. Considering this range, you can expect the typical pricing per square foot to be $180 to $420. Some outlets claim prices can be as high as $600+ per square foot, but this price range can go up or down based on the factors outlined below:
Local labor and material cost
Modification to the floor plan chosen
Local codes, permits and fees
Shipping tax and cost
Topography of the site
Foundation requirements and work
Interior finishing and cost
Location, worker availability and economy
When it comes to pricing, Lindal Homes claims that they’re very competitively priced compared to local home builders. If you have an architect custom build your home, the prices from Lindal can be significantly lower while still maintaining the highest level of quality possible.
Local representatives that know your market can help you understand pricing, based on local parameters and requirements, to ensure that the quote is as accurate as possible.
When it comes to drafting and designing your own home and floor plan, the process can take less than three weeks and be as cheap as $1.50 per square foot. There's even a level one design service where pricing for plans can be as low as $1.25 per square foot.
Lindal Homes will consider your budget in the process to help you design a home that’s functional and affordable. Every addition can add to the home’s cost, so it’s important to have an idea of your budget to help keep costs affordable for you.
